You pay what you think its worth

Crazy idea? Yeah I thought so too. Before I left for Vancouver I search a few of their newspapers online. I came across a review for Rogue Kitchen. A new funky restaurant in downtown Vancouver, BC. The thing that makes it unique is you pay what you want. They have set prices, but once you have eaten your meal, they give you a card. It asks you what you ordered and if you think that price is right. I ordered the lobster mac n' cheese. It was $16. I honestly thought the cheese was not creamy enough and a little dry. I thought it was worth $15, so that's what I paid! If I would have been blown away and thought it was worth more than $16, I could have paid more and they would donate the extra money to charity. Cool?? While enjoying my meal, a waitress dropped a glass which ended up everywhere. The management was a bit slow in cleaning up the glass. But all in all Rogue Kitchen is the place to go when your in Vancouver.

Who knew Buckwheat was so tasty??

Tonight instead of regular whole wheat pasta, I tried Organic Buckwheat Soba noodles. They clump more than I expected but they were "normal" tasting. The ingredients: organic wheat flour, organic buckwheat flour and sea salt. My only concern is that they are a product of china. But I guess they are sorta Chinese??  For the sauce: Swiss Chard, Tomatoes, artichoke hearts, and some spices. Yum! A typical salad to follow. Greens, tomato, cucumbers, carrots, and dried cranberries.

Kick Start

Today was a semi boring day. As soon as a woke up, 9:00am my sister and I went to our Grandmothers house a half hour away. She is currently building a straw bale house. We helped string the bales into place. That's about it. 2 hours of work...which was at a glacier pace. Well what do you expect their in their 70's. Before going out to help, I made oatmeal. Ever since my bike trip I have eaten oatmeal everyday. I just love it!! I brought dry oatmeal and then used walnuts, fresh blueberries, and honey to make it...amazing. What a good start to a boring day:)

The Journey Begins

Food! I love it. I take pictures, I talk about it, I rate it. I just can't get enough of it. Not until just recently did I realize my true love for it. A week ago I got back from a life changing  18 day biking trip. I met 6 total strangers at the Seattle Airport and spent many  long days biking with them. That's when I realized my love. Before I left I had emailed food critics (newspapers, bloggers) of the major cities were where to visit, to see what the best restaurants were. First of all, who does that? Someone my age? On a biking trip?? Oh yes! I realized my love even more when the other bikers commented on me taking pictures of our food that we made. I told them it was for my dad. He loves food too. I thought he would be able to better understand my stories and my trip from the point of food. So here we go Blog...here I come!
